In a recent social media poll, the baking community came together to vote on what this year’s cake competition theme should be. The winner?
A resounding favourite – Illusion Cakes: Christmas Edition. Now, it’s time to turn your baking and cake decorating skills into optical illusions that wow the judges and audiences alike.
🎄 What Are Illusion Cakes?
Illusion cakes are cakes designed to look like anything but cake – and they’ve taken the baking world by storm. Think Christmas presents, pinecones, festive puddings, or even a fully roasted turkey that’s actually made of sponge and fondant. The more jaw-dropping the design, the better!
Your challenge: create a festive showstopper so realistic that people will be left asking, “Is it real or is it cake?”

All entries will be displayed live at The Cake & Bake Show, held at Olympia London from 26–30 November 2025. The competition is open to all ages and skill levels – from professional cake artists to home bakers and hobbyists.
