BAKE OFF CONTESTANTS WOWED BY ELPHABA SHOWSTOPPER AT CAKE & BAKE SHOW
)
The Cake & Bake Show 2024 unveiled a showstopper that quite literally stood alone — Elphaba, the green-skinned witch from Wicked, sculpted in breathtaking detail by acclaimed cake artist Jane Lashbrook. With no other cakes on display, this dramatic centrepiece became the beating heart of the show — and a magnet for crowds.
Crafted entirely from moulding chocolate, sugar and hand-painted food dye, the sculpture showcased Lashbrook’s extraordinary command of edible materials. From the flowing dress to the piercing green gaze, Elphaba looked as though she had stepped straight from the silver screen and been transformed into a spellbinding piece of edible artistry.
Jane Lashbrook, known for her hyper-realistic cake sculptures, has long pushed the boundaries of sugar artistry — but this singular display captured imaginations in a new way. Visitors gathered in awe, many unable to believe it was, in fact, cake.
Word of the centrepiece quickly spread, and among the weekend’s visitors were several familiar faces from The Great British Bake Off 2024. Contestants Dylan, Gill, John, Mike and Andy were all spotted taking in the display — a nod to the sculpture’s impact not just on fans, but fellow bakers, too.
Amid a show renowned for its extraordinary bakes and exceptional sugarcraft, Elphaba stood apart — bold, cinematic, and a testament to the power of cake as a sculptural art form.
