John Whaite is a British Cook, Cookery Author and TV presenter. John won the third series of the BBC’s The Great British Bake Off, and now runs his own cookery school, John Whaite’s Kitchen, set in the heart of rural Lancashire
John’s fourth book, Comfort was published in autumn 2017 and was selected by BBC Radio 4’s Food Programme one of their books for the year. John co-presented ITV’s food programme, Chopping Block with Rosemary Shrager. His third book, Perfect Plates 5 Ingredients, published by Kyle Books in, 2016. John has also been the resident chef on ITV’s Lorraine for 3 years.
Food has always been John’s passion, learning at his mother’s knee and growing up on a dairy farm. There, learned about British produce and the importance of supporting local food producers and artisan crafters. His parents also owned a fish and chip shop, where John started his first job – as potato peeler – aged just 10.Even earlier than that, he was always keen to make ‘a living’ from food, selling bags of pick and mix to his peers school – without the teachers knowing, of course.
John then went on to study at Le Cordomgon Bleu, and gained a first class Law degree from the University Manchester after declining a place to study at Oxford University. John decided to hang up the gown and don apron, a decision spurred on after he won The Great British Bake Off. Following his win, he wrote John Whaite Bakes: Recipes for Every Day and Every Mood and John Whaite Bakes At Home.
John is a popular brand ambassador and has worked with a number of leading blue chip food businesses. John also enjoys demonstrating his latest recipes, regularly appearing at some of the nations best food festivals and shows.
